An artist active in multiple media, Hayley Ninnis recently expanded into furniture restoration. Currently at work on a White Sewing Machine, Hayley Ninnis has chosen to decoupage the interior using vintage French patterns.
Decoupage, the art of decorative paper cutting, can add new life to an old piece of furniture. The process begins with choosing the wrapping paper, wallpaper, or scrapbook paper that will go onto the piece. Next, thoroughly clean the piece and, depending on its size, trace its dimensions onto a piece of ordinary paper. Using the template, trace and cut out the section of decorative paper that will go onto the furniture. Those who are making a collage with multiple types of paper or are planning to use the paper as accents on a painted piece can use the cutout to first arrange the paper before committing it to the furniture. If the decorative paper is meant to cover the entire face of the furniture, a small amount should overlap on all sides. Then, attach the paper to the table with decoupage glue, and smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles with a foam roller or credit card. Some people also choose to soak the paper in water beforehand for ease of application. After sanding any exposed edges to remove the overlapping paper and make the piece look polished, apply a coat of sealer as a finishing touch.

A seller of vintage clothing and jewelry on Esty.com, Hayley Ninnis is also pursuing her bachelor's degree in psychology. Hayley Ninnis enjoys blending psychology with yoga practice and will soon receive her teacher certification in power vinyasa yoga.
As a form of power yoga, power vinyasa yoga works to improve energy, strength and overall well-being. It focuses on bringing each body to its own ideal balance and as such helps the practitioner to heal and come into harmony with the self and surroundings. Power vinyasa yoga works to achieve this end via a combination of breath work and varied flowing poses. All vinyasa yoga synchronizes pose sequences with the breath. Teachers present varied sequences of movement to calm the practitioner's mind and simultaneously build endurance in the body. By lengthening the hold time of a pose or increasing the intensity of the combination, while maintaining focus on the breath, students strengthen their bodies and their connection to themselves. Doing so helps each student to improve his or her overall fitness on a personal level, rather than in comparison to the kind of predetermined aesthetic baselines that traditional Western workouts present. |
