With a lifelong passion for vintage items, Hayley Ninnis has a job in the memorabilia industry and serves as customer service representative with Hunt Auctions. A recent auction that Hayley Ninnis supported was that of Babe Ruth’s iconic New York Yankees jersey, which he wore from 1928 to 1930. Crafted from grey flannel, the road uniform has all of its buttons intact and a backside drawstring, with the name Ruth stitched into the collar. The jersey was owned by Ruth's granddaughter Linda Ruth Tosetti, who described wanting to bring pieces of the Sultan of Swat’s life that were “largely unknown” to public light. Considered by many to be the greatest baseball player of all time, Ruth started as a pitcher with the Boston Red Sox and went on to achieve greatness as a power hitter who led the Yankees to four World Series championships in the 1930s. Over the course of 22 seasons he achieved 714 home runs, a record that stood until Hank Aaron outpaced him in the 1970s. Considering Ruth’s mythic status in baseball lore, collectors were not surprised to see the iconic Yankees uniform go for $5.64 million, which shattered the previous record for a 1920 Babe Ruth jersey that auctioned for $4.4 million.
