Hayley Ninnis is a customer service representative at Hunt Auctions, where she registers bidders for sports memorabilia auctions and responds to all customer inquiries, among other responsibilities. This past June, Hayley Ninnis helped organize the Hunt Auctions event at Yankee Stadium, which featured a record-breaking sale.
The item that made headlines at the event was a Babe Ruth New York Yankees jersey. It sold for $5.64 million, which broke the previous record for the most expensive piece of sports memorabilia. Coincidentally, the previous record belonged to a Ruth jersey from 1920 that sold for $4.4 million. The jersey sold at the recent auction was from 1928-30 and was part of a larger collection of items related to "The Great Bambino." A member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Ruth began his baseball career with the Boston Red Sox in 1914 and played with the Yankees from 1920 to 1934. The seven-time World Series winner led all MLB players in home runs in 12 separate seasons. He retired in 1935 with 714 home runs, 2,214 RBI, and a .342 batting average. He's also the league's all-time leader in slugging percentage (.690) and on-base plus slugging percentage (1.164).
