While working and finishing her bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University, Hayley Ninnis still finds time to pursue a variety hobbies and interests. One of Hayley Ninnis’ interests is glassblowing, and she has taken glassblowing courses at East Fall Glassworks.
Glassblowing involves molten glass being molded and shaped into vessels and other forms using air that is blown through a long metal pipe on a molten blob of glass. Glassblowing did not appear until 50 BC. Prior to that, glass vessels were made with a form in which the molten glass would be shaped. The molten glass was then cooled, and the form was removed. After the glassblowing process was developed as we know it today, it became easier and faster to create glass vessels. East Falls Glassworks is located in a textile mill from the 19th century in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is now a complex with a growing art community. There are over 40 art studios featuring painters, sculptors, and artists who use other glass work techniques.

Decorating a cake skillfully begins with knowledge of the piping techniques used to create patterns such as lines, ruffles, petals, and rosettes. Buttercream without shortening is the best ingredient for piping, as it is smudge resistant and easy to work with and hardens when chilled. Once placed in the piping bag, the icing or buttercream should be gently squeezed to remove trapped air bubbles, before it is tied off at the end. A sign of proper consistency is that the icing does not break when piped between the fingers and given a small shake. If the icing is too dry, simply add water, and if too wet, add a bit of powdered sugar. When piping, do not force the lines but let gravity do the work in drawing the buttercream down onto the cake. Keeping the tip of the piping bag off the cake surface, gently guide the string of icing in the desired direction. For those with unsteady hands, it makes sense to find a comfortable position with the elbows on the table or countertop, which provides support. A psychology student at Pennsylvania State University, Hayley Ninnis is also a bookseller and vintage clothing expert. As part of her passion for vintage items, Hayley Ninnis is currently renovating a 19th-century house to flip it for a profit.
Whether you are an expert house flipper with several successes or a first-time house flipper looking for a quick flip opportunity, there are a number of tips to keep in mind when approaching the experience. -Fix common issues. A simple way to add value to a home is to make the changes that tend to catch a buyer’s eye first. Power-wash, paint, or tuck-point the exterior of the house as necessary, including the doors. Inside, the kitchen and bathrooms are a good place to start. Replace the faucets and sinks, as these are usually problem areas. Move room to room, cleaning and replacing the biggest issues and moving on from there. -Wait for the right opportunity. Flipping a house involves more than making necessary renovations and repairs. You must also find a buyer for the property. Before purchasing a house to flip, know the state of the local market and be sure that it can support the margin you will need to make a profit. Being patient and doing research can pay dividends. -Secure financing. Whenever possible, save and pay for the cost of the house out-of-pocket. This frees you from longer-term commitments and interest rates. If that is not an option, make a large down payment to lower the interest rate and payments. Finally, keep the actual flip costs in the budget when securing financing. Vintage collecting can be a rewarding hobby, especially with a few simple rules. First, it’s important to note the difference between “vintage” and “used.” Vintage clothing is high quality and of cultural significance. It remains relevant due to its timeless style. Novice vintage shoppers might stick to wardrobe staples, such as a little black dress or a well-made cardigan, pieces that are versatile and simple. To ensure the quality of a piece, hold it up to the light and inspect for worn fabric, burst seams, or moth holes. After purchasing a vintage piece, proper care is essential. Store garments in cool, dry place, and use padded hangers instead of plastic. After each wear, clean or air out the piece before storing. Hayley Ninnis participates in a variety of artistic endeavors, such as furniture restoration and quilting. In addition, Hayley Ninnis will soon receive training as a yoga teacher.
Yoga is a highly rewarding activity with many benefits, both physical and emotional. However, for those just starting out, as well as for more advanced practitioners, certain poses can be challenging. This is particularly true of balance poses, in which a person places all their weight on one leg. These poses require strong muscles and focus. As students continue their yoga practices, balance poses eventually become less difficult. However, for those who struggle with them, there are a number of things to keep in mind. First of all, it’s important not to rush into a pose, an action that makes it more likely that the person will fall out of the pose. Instead, a person should move into a balance pose slowly, while remaining highly aware of the body’s movements. Once in the pose, it’s often helpful to imagine a line down the center of the body in order to help focus on alignment and create greater stability. Before bringing the arms and head into the pose, it can also help to first stabilize the lower part of the body. If balancing is still difficult, using a chair or wall for support is another possibility. Soon to be certified in power vinyasa yoga, Hayley Ninnis has an interest in integrative yoga therapy. Hayley Ninnis also owns an Etsy shop, an outlet she uses to express her love of fashion by selling vintage clothing and jewelry.
When purchasing vintage clothing, a person should understand what the term “vintage” means. Unlike thrift store clothing, vintage items hold historical or cultural significance that bring value to a piece. It also highlights a specific style that is deemed timeless, such as beaded cardigans and little black dresses. Costly, vintage apparel takes time to evaluate for quality. Buyers should use their best judgment when touching clothing to determine if life remains in the fabric. Faded garments or those that look cracked or pulled should be avoided. Extra investments can be made to tailor a piece to fit, but brittle and dry fabrics cannot be salvaged. Likewise, alterations only work on specific items, so awareness of body proportions while shopping helps one purchase garments that fit or will fit properly. An Etsy shop owner, Hayley Ninnis enjoys collecting vintage clothing and accessories to sell. When she is not stocking her store, Hayley Ninnis likes to make clothes and knit.
Knitting a sweater for the first time can be daunting, but with a few tips from Craftsy and Lion Brand Yarns, a beginner can craft a well-thought-out piece. 1. Take accurate body measurements before starting a project. Only undergarments should be worn to ensure the best result. If a person expects to wear a camisole or tee shirt underneath the sweater, he or she should take measurements while wearing the garment. 2. Like sewing, seaming together knitted pieces works best when pinned together for alignment. Using yarn needles made especially for seaming also helps avoid splitting the material. 3. Take time to make a gauge swatch during the planning phase. This gives a person a better idea on how tightly he or she knits and the number of actual stitches created per inch. Depending on the swatch, the knitter can make necessary adjustments to create a perfectly fitting sweater. Hayley Ninnis, a yoga and psychology enthusiast living in the Philadelphia area, pursues many additional interests in her free time. In particular, Hayley Ninnis enjoys building her collection of vinyl records. For individuals interested in starting a vinyl collection, there are a number of things to keep in mind.
First of all, one needs a turntable to play the records. Investing in equipment can be expensive, especially if someone purchases an advanced setup with speakers and a receiver. However, there are many all-in-one options available that enable people to listen to vinyl records at a lower cost. One the person has the necessary equipment, the next step is to begin building a collection. When purchasing a record, it’s important to check it for cracks and scratches, as these have a negative effect on music quality. Then, as you continue to grow your collection, be sure to clean the records with a soft cloth and a vinyl cleaning product to help ensure records stay in good condition. Vinyl records should also be stored in a cool, dry place and arranged vertically, as records stacked on top of one another can lead to warping. An artist active in multiple media, Hayley Ninnis recently expanded into furniture restoration. Currently at work on a White Sewing Machine, Hayley Ninnis has chosen to decoupage the interior using vintage French patterns.
Decoupage, the art of decorative paper cutting, can add new life to an old piece of furniture. The process begins with choosing the wrapping paper, wallpaper, or scrapbook paper that will go onto the piece. Next, thoroughly clean the piece and, depending on its size, trace its dimensions onto a piece of ordinary paper. Using the template, trace and cut out the section of decorative paper that will go onto the furniture. Those who are making a collage with multiple types of paper or are planning to use the paper as accents on a painted piece can use the cutout to first arrange the paper before committing it to the furniture. If the decorative paper is meant to cover the entire face of the furniture, a small amount should overlap on all sides. Then, attach the paper to the table with decoupage glue, and smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles with a foam roller or credit card. Some people also choose to soak the paper in water beforehand for ease of application. After sanding any exposed edges to remove the overlapping paper and make the piece look polished, apply a coat of sealer as a finishing touch. A seller of vintage clothing and jewelry on Esty.com, Hayley Ninnis is also pursuing her bachelor's degree in psychology. Hayley Ninnis enjoys blending psychology with yoga practice and will soon receive her teacher certification in power vinyasa yoga.
As a form of power yoga, power vinyasa yoga works to improve energy, strength and overall well-being. It focuses on bringing each body to its own ideal balance and as such helps the practitioner to heal and come into harmony with the self and surroundings. Power vinyasa yoga works to achieve this end via a combination of breath work and varied flowing poses. All vinyasa yoga synchronizes pose sequences with the breath. Teachers present varied sequences of movement to calm the practitioner's mind and simultaneously build endurance in the body. By lengthening the hold time of a pose or increasing the intensity of the combination, while maintaining focus on the breath, students strengthen their bodies and their connection to themselves. Doing so helps each student to improve his or her overall fitness on a personal level, rather than in comparison to the kind of predetermined aesthetic baselines that traditional Western workouts present. |
