Maintaining a popular site dedicated to everything vintage on Etsy, Hayley Ninnis has a longstanding interest in fashion from various eras. One distinctive piece offered by Hayley Ninnis on Etsy is a Vivienne Westwood Anglomania mohair blend jacket from the 1990s.
A groundbreaking designer with roots in the 1970s punk culture, Vivienne Westwood was known for provocative works that drew from a wide range of periods and styles. An example was a Pirate shirt from 1981 that took a curved motif from African textiles and combined it with the silhouette form common in 17th century British portraiture. Another signature item was the kilt, which Westwood used in men’s pieces as a way of breaking down gender stereotypes. In 1993-1994, she re-envisioned the kilt as an elegant piece of women’s fashion, with a specific pattern manufactured in the historic Scottish textile mill Locharron. It is in this tradition of fine blended weaving which the mohair jacket, from Angora wool, embodies. Vivienne Westwood’s practical sense of design and craftsmanship is demonstrated in the gray and charcoal jacket, which features an accompanying scarf.
